This collection focuses on issues surrounding the collection and interpretation of data in the social sciences. Broadly, the main aim of the collection is to consider research from the respondent's point of view - how do respondents perceive 'being researched'? How does that affect what they say? Each of the papers was first presented in the Annual Colloquium on Research Issues, Lancaster. Topics covered include: the design of questionnaires, the conduct of interviews, personal repertory grids, and categorisation of data. The paper by Andrew Littlejohn, entitled 'How to fail interviews' is available at this website. Click on the 'Articles and papers' link above.

The complete collection is available through interlibrary loan from Lancaster University library

A companion volume 'Methods and Problems in Doing Applied Linguistic Research' edited by Mann and Dingwall is also available from the same library.
